Questions about how sessions work, what to expect, and how to get started. Can't find the answer you're looking for? Get in touch and we'll be happy to help.

Getting Started

All sessions take place online via video call. You do not need any special equipment — a smartphone, tablet or computer with a webcam and a stable internet connection is all that is required. Your tutor will send you a meeting link in advance, and you simply click it at the time of the session.

Sessions also make use of a shared digital whiteboard, which allows your tutor to write, annotate and work through problems alongside you in real time, just as you would with a physical whiteboard in the room.

Yes. Before booking any paid sessions, you are welcome to arrange a free 15-minute introductory call with your tutor. This gives you the chance to ask questions, understand the tutor's approach, and make sure the fit feels right for your child before spending anything.

Gradus Academy works with secondary school students from Year 9 through to Year 13, covering KS3, GCSE and A-Level. We also support students preparing for university entrance assessments.

If you are unsure whether your child's year group or subject falls within our current offering, please get in touch and we will let you know.

At GCSE we offer tuition in English Literature, English Language, History, Mathematics, Combined Science, Geography and Religious Studies, among others. At A-Level we cover English Literature, English Language, History, Politics, Mathematics, Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, Business Studies, Physics, Sociology and Economics.

We also offer KS3 support, including secondary transition tuition for students in Years 7 to 9. If you do not see your subject listed, please enquire and we will do our best to help.

Sessions & Teaching

Every session is tailored to the student in front of us. Your tutor will begin by reviewing the previous session and addressing any outstanding questions, then introduce new material clearly and methodically. Concepts are explained, demonstrated through multiple examples, and then practised together until your child feels genuinely comfortable — not just ready to move on.

We work through problems both ways: applying concepts to new questions, and translating exercises back to first principles, to build real understanding rather than surface familiarity.

Yes. All sessions are recorded for safeguarding and quality assurance purposes. Recordings are stored securely and are available for students and parents to revisit, which many find useful when reviewing material between sessions. Please see our Privacy Policy for full details on how recordings are stored and used.

You will never be left in the dark. Your tutor provides regular written progress updates, setting out what has been covered, where your child is excelling and where more attention is needed. We also establish clear, measurable milestones at the outset so that progress is tangible and trackable over time.

Yes. Consistency matters enormously in tutoring. Once matched, your child will work with the same tutor throughout, allowing them to build genuine rapport and enabling the tutor to understand exactly how your child thinks and learns.

Payments & Scheduling

Payment is made in advance of each session or agreed block of sessions, by bank transfer or another method agreed at the time of booking. There are no subscriptions or sign-up fees. You pay only for the tuition you book.

We understand that family life does not always follow a fixed schedule. If you need to move a session, please give at least 24 hours' notice and your tutor will arrange a new time that works for everyone, at no extra charge.

Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or where no contact is made, will be charged in full. For full details please see our Terms and Conditions.

Tutors are available Monday to Sunday, 8am to 8pm. We know that families have different schedules — including those who home educate — and we are happy to arrange sessions at whatever time works best for you.
